A nice long weekend…

This past weekend we went here, there, and everywhere! Even the zoo! We had such a great time. And Tyler was such a trooper. It was difficult keeping up with her daily routine and nap schedule, but she was a good sport and kept her sense of humor. If only we had more long weekends throughout the year.

A Day at the Park

We spent a great day at the park today. The weather was beautiful, the company was great…at one point, I think we had as many dogs around as we did people! Haha!

Yesterday, the munchkin, the hubs, and I, along with the Dodges went to Disneyland for Mother’s Day. While there, I took a sleeping Tyler along for a walk around the park while everyone else went on rides. During our walk, I went into one of the stores and saw these little figurines called Vinylmations. Basically, they are figurines shaped like Mickey but decorated by different artists. They are “collectables” but the catch is that you can’t choose which one you want. You have to pick a sealed box, buy it, and then open it and hope that it’s the one you want. If it’s not–and chances are, it won’t be–then you can “trade” your’s with one of several places around the park who have them to trade. But only ones that are displayed in a special acrylic case by the register are available to trade. Usually, there are 3 to trade from. If you’re lucky and find that the one you’re looking for is one that’s being traded at one of these spots, then you can trade your’s and the one you traded will then replace the one you took. There are several series of these Vinylmations, and each series has 12 different designs plus one mystery one you can collect.

Anyway, as I was walking around, I noticed kids and adults alike running around the stores where these Vinylmations were available to buy and trade looking for the one they’re missing. I never noticed this before…and I found myself obsessing over wanting to start collecting them too! Specifically, I had my eye on one that had chinese writing on it. So I took my chance and bought one. Of course, when I opened the sealed box, it wasn’t ‘the one I wanted. I was a little disappointed but decided that all was not lost and I would go around and look for all the spots that traded these and hope that I’d find the one I wanted.

By this time, the rest of the gang were done with their rides and I told them about my new found obsession. I found out that Charlie and Chase were already collectors and had several of these at home (none of which were the one that I wanted). Before we left, Charlie and Chase went to one of the stores to look for souvenirs when Chase came up to me and said that she wanted to trade me for my figurine with the one she bought, and then handed me the little black figurine with chinese writing on it!!!!!

Her parents later told me that when Chase found out that I was on a mission to find my figurine, she decided to use her allowance to buy one and hope that she’d get the one I wanted just so she could trade me. Later, when she was buying the figurine, she told her mom that she had a good feeling about the one she chose…

The hubs and I took advantage of the Cash for Appliances program and got ourselves a new fridge with part of our tax return.

Isn’t it pretty??? I’ve always wanted a stainless steel fridge with french doors.

Video monitors are BRILLIANT!

I don’t know why we waited so long to get a video baby monitor. We finally got one a couple of weeks ago. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the best invention since sliced bread. Now, we no longer have to go into the room to check on her and every time I feel like she’s being TOO quiet, all I have to do is turn on the monitor. It even has night vision.

Jury Duty

I got called in for Jury Duty for the very first time today. To be honest, I was a little excited. Haha. I figured it’d be a new experience and hanging out in Pasadena isn’t so bad. Plus, annnnything is better than being at work right? But about 10 minutes in, I started thinking of all the different ways I could get excused. It was SO BORING! I even started thinking about work. Here’s what I did today:

7:30 a.m. RUSHED out of the house because I was going to be late to report for Jury Duty at 8 a.m.

7:55 a.m. Found out that the jury assembly room doors don’t actually open until 8:15 (curses!)

8:30 a.m. Tried to get out of jury duty by telling the jury room lady that I had to be home to take care of my 15-month-old baby.

8:31 a.m. Got rejected because KP pays for me to be juror. Was told that I was at the mercy of the judge. (double )

8:32 a.m. Feeling rejected, went back to my grimy seat. At least I still had my iTouch to entertain me.

8:33 a.m. Happy that we got free wifi in the jury assembly room. Pissed that I forgot to charge my iTouch last night. (FML!)

9:00 a.m. Proceeded to master the art of sleeping with my eyes open.

11:00 a.m. Started using one of the computers in the jury assembly room.

11:45 a.m. Started to feel a little guilty for being on the computer for longer than 30 min.

11:46 a.m. Got over my guilt.

12:00 p.m. Met Alison for lunch.

1:30 p.m. Returned to the jury assembly room. Got back on the computer.

2:30 p.m. Got called as a member of a panel to be interviewed for a criminal case.

2:40 p.m. Found out the case was going to last until MAY 7!!! (FML!)

2:41 p.m. Frantically tried to come up with excuses to get out of becoming a juror on the case.

2:45 p.m. Walked into the courtroom and almost fell on my ass.

2:50 p.m. Listened to the judge tell us that if we wanted to be excused, we’d have to stand up and tell her what our personal hardship (i.e. excuse) was one at a time.

2:51 p.m. Watched the judge go through each juror one by one, listening to their excuses, and rejecting them one by one.

2:55 p.m. Started getting nervous and thinking that I should hurry up and volunteer to go next before the judge starts to really be in a bad mood.

2:56 p.m. Stood up at the same time as another guy, and he just starts to talk before me. (Jerk!)

2:56 p.m. Listened to the jerk guy tell the judge how unfair it is for him to be here because he owns his own business and he can’t afford to be here. Watched the judge get annoyed and pissed at this guy. Horrified that the jerk guy actually started becoming argumentative to the judge…making her probably hate all of us. (FML!)

3:00 p.m. Got up and started to speak. Noticed that my voice was shaking a little as I told the judge that I couldn’t afford to be a juror until May 7 because I had to take care of my 15-month-old baby. Judge asks who’s watching my baby today? I tell her my mom. (true) Judge asks if my mom can watch my baby until May 7. I tell her no. (true because my parents are going to china in a week) Judge excuses me. VICTORY!

3:01 p.m. Walked very fast out of the courtroom in case judge changed her mind.

Just a few things to note before the weekend…

1. Apparently the place I work at doesn’t think Good Friday is a good enough holiday to let us start our weekend early.

2. The hubs bought a copy of Sherlock Holmes so we can watch it together before he leaves for the weekend.

3. The Wangs are having a girl!

What happens in Vegas…

The hubs is going to Vegas this weekend for our good friend Ed’s bachelor party. That means Tyler and I will be spending some quality time together. Not sure what we’re going to do yet. Tyler’s finally at the age where I can take her out by myself and not worry about the “what ifs…” that I can’t handle on my own. You know, stuff like what if she spits up all over herself in a restaurant? What if she does “the deed” all over herself? What if she has a meltdown? Not that I couldn’t handle any of those things myself, but when you’re in public and your baby is still a baby…it’s a whole different story.

Anyway, I hope it doesn’t rain. That would suck.
